Milk thistleis an annual or biennial herb with purple-pink flowers from the star family, which is not dissimilar to thistle. Its origins are in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands and Asia Minor, but in Europe it is only a domesticated herb.
Sylimarin, the collective name for flavolignan compounds and essential oils, is one of the most important substances in milk thistle. Other important substances are, of course, amino acids, sugars and oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids.
Milk thistle is commonly used in detoxifying cures and cleansing the body, as it acts as an antioxidant. It also supports the normal function of our digestion, liver and gallbladder. It supports the normal functioning of our cardiovascular system. It is also advisable to take a dietary supplement of milk thistle when we want to support our immunity and natural defences.
