Vitamin B12 is a vitamin of the B series, belonging to the cobalamin group. It can be found in several forms, among which methylcobalamin plays the primary role, because unlike cheap cyanocobalamin it is not bound to the cyanide molecule. Methyl B12 is also a great form for those with MTHFR gene mutations.
B12 deficiency is no exception. It can result from impaired absorption from the digestive tract, typically from microbiome imbalances, inadequate intake from food (especially in vegetarians), and metabolic disorders. And why is B12 such an important vitamin? It contributes to the normal production of red blood cells, normal energy metabolism and is beneficial for the normal functioning of the nervous system and immune system.
